Diwali — Why Travelers Call It Life-Changing

There's a reason Diwali is on every serious traveler's bucket list. The scale of it — every building, every street, every temple lit from within — is something photographs cannot convey.

🪔

Diwali Night in Jaipur

The Pink City on Diwali night is extraordinary — the entire old city lit by hundreds of thousands of clay lamps, fireworks overhead, and families celebrating in the streets. We position you perfectly.

🛶

Dev Diwali on the Ganges

Three weeks after Diwali, Varanasi celebrates Dev Diwali — every ghat lined with hundreds of thousands of floating lamps. We time the tour to catch this if possible; it's even more spectacular than Diwali itself.

🎁

Diwali With a Local Family

We arrange for guests to celebrate part of Diwali evening with a local Jaipur family — exchanging sweets, lighting diyas together, watching fireworks from a rooftop. Genuine, not staged.

🍬

Diwali Sweets Tour

Diwali is India's sweetest festival. We take you to the finest mithai (sweets) shops — halwais who've been making barfi and laddoo for five generations. You'll eat too many.

🎆

Fireworks & Atmosphere

The fireworks on Diwali night go on for hours — from street-level crackers to aerial displays. The sky above Jaipur is continuously lit from 6pm until midnight.

🏛

Pre-Diwali Sites, Uncrowded

The week before Diwali, popular monuments have noticeably fewer international tourists — a quiet bonus of festival timing.

Everything You Need to Know

Diwali falls on the new moon of Kartik (the Hindu lunar calendar) — usually in October or November. 2025: Oct 20. 2026: Nov 8. 2027: Oct 29. We'll build your itinerary around the exact date.
Diwali fireworks are a genuine festival tradition — spectacular but occasionally intense. We keep you in well-positioned, safe viewing areas. Air quality in cities can dip on Diwali night due to fireworks (worth knowing for those with respiratory sensitivities). Most guests describe the spectacle as extraordinary and worth it.
Dev Diwali ('Diwali of the Gods') occurs on the full moon 15 days after Diwali, in Varanasi. Every ghat is lined with hundreds of thousands of floating earthen lamps — the effect from a boat is genuinely breathtaking. It's smaller and more intimate than Diwali, but often called more beautiful. We try to include it based on your travel dates.
That's exactly what this tour is — the Golden Triangle (Delhi, Agra, Jaipur) is the framework, with Diwali and Varanasi adding the festival dimension. All the cultural highlights are included.

One night in India that changes everything.

Diwali dates sell out 6–9 months in advance. Tell us your preferred year and we'll check availability immediately.
